An unhealthy diet contributes to the onset of cardiovascular diseases, which account for around 20% of premature deaths in Europe (deaths occurring before the age of 65).
However, this mortality is largely preventable through a healthy diet, which, once again, means the Mediterranean Diet. Thanks to its abundance of so-called ‘functional’ foods, it is capable of exerting a beneficial epigenetic effect on our bodies, starting with the reduction of cardiovascular events, in both primary and secondary prevention.
These are the themes of the conference to be held on Wednesday 22 April 2026 at the European University of Rome, at Via degli Aldobrandeschi 190.
The first guidelines on the Mediterranean Diet will be presented, resulting from a collaboration between the Italian National Institute of Health, the National Research Council and various Italian universities and medical-scientific societies.
